I think this movie needed a better finale. A lot of David Koepp scripts have disappointing finales.

To each his own, I thought the finale was great and it brought Tom & Maggie even closer together, not to mention the moment when all of the clues earlier make perfect sense. (Tom's daydream 'They were gonna kill you Tom, you and Maggie, both.' and Jake's not wanting to go home because of the feathers.)

I kind of agree, but we'll never know. It seemed like it might have been nice to hear the two of them talk about what happened, him apologize for how it all made him act, and her apologize for not believing him. But as good as it might sound on paper, it may not have flowed well as an ending.
At least it didn't end with the kid shouting 'stop the car' and them going and ringing some doorbell and some lady answering "Yes?" "Hi, It's about your missing child"
