Disappointing movie.

I enjoyed the beginning, and the set up, especially the very creative and creepy dream sequences.
But I think the rest of the plot was rather predictable, and very thin. Especially at the 'climax', I had a few problems.- The wife goes into the house looking for Kevin Bacon, has been driving in the dark all night, but doesn't notice someone holding him down on the ground two feet away from her?
- Somehow, the dad emerged from the basement with a gun, without either of the two bad guys noticing.
- So the dad just fired off a shot, and sat in the basement for no reason?
Too convenient.
Also, I had this nagging feeling that the whole movie felt like a Twilight Zone episode, and it wasn't until 2 minutes ago that I checked that the original story was written by none other than Richard Matheson! Certainly explains alot.
Limit of the Willing Suspension of Disbelief: directly proportional to its awesomeness.

1)I don't remember if he was still in the same position or if the guy had dragged him out of view. I took more an issue with her having a sense something was wrong, seeing lights go out, enough sense to grab the knife, but not bother to ask for help or anything. Granted theres not much she could do but knock on a neighbor's door to call the police.
2 and 3)I believe he originally was going to kill himself and didn't want Bacon to see it, but he fired into the wall again instead, still hesitant. I believe after he heard the wife screaming , he held back his grief and shifted to stopping the guy and his kid. I don't find it difficult to imagine that in the noisy commotion of screams, punches, etc , that he was able to climb up the stairs in the next room and come around to the doorway without anybody noticing or hearing.
