Why is this movie so hated?

Rewatching the trilogy after seeing Jurassic World made me realize how much of a fun adventure film this one is. Too me, Jurassic World was a little too nostalgic and glossy. I miss Stan Winston's creations and his animatronics. I actually do prefer this one over The Lost World because it feels a bit more like the first movie. Small group of characters, huge set pieces, and the harrowing escapes.
Also, the way they filmed the Pteranodon cage was amazing.
Jurassic World was a let down for me although I thought the acting was good, it just seemed a little too "sequel cash grab" for me. "Let's make a new dinosaur that is highly intelligent and then train raptors for possible military expeditions." Meh
Spinosaurus and I-Rex would have been a cool fight to see, especially how aggressive the Spino seems to be. No slo-mo raptor run to save the day.

Although I enjoyed Jurassic World overall, there is no question that the effects and music were better in this movie.
JP3 is more closely tied to the spirit of the original. I don't mind that Jurassic World is its own thing (in fact I prefer something new at this point), but it didn't really do anything new that was particularly exciting. It did convince me that modern special effects are not necessarily better than what we had then. I enjoyed Stan Winston's work here, and his loss is still hugely felt. -

And I grew up with Harryhausen films! How many times we watched "Mysterious Island"! And other dino films like "The Land/People That Time Forgot". So people of my generation we might view it differently. At first I found it a little "less grand" than the first two but many of us are able to enjoy a simpler adventure film. It's not video-game fast, none of the JPs are really, but it's hard to see how anyone "hates" it.

I prefer this one over number 2! The list world to me is boring and the plot is eh and I find it to be the most oddly cast movie ever (Julianne Moore and Vince Vaughn?!?).
But I prefer jurassic world over both 2 and 3. -

Because it was a turd of a movie. There was no plot, a giant duck chasing everyone through the whole goddamn movie, "talking" raptors, the list goes on!
And not to mention characters so goddamned annoying I was hoping they would get eaten then pooped - out then stepped on!!! -

That juvenile reasoning basically sums up the unexplained, unwarranted hatred for this fun, well-made adventure film. -

While I can't comment on Jurassic World (I've yet to see it), Jurassic Park 3 is hated for many reasons.
- The characters are utterly forgettable. While the first film had great characters (and the second movie had some), this film lacks any characters you can care about, because they're all so bland and cliched (i.e. the divorced couple, the retired man who decides to join in after declaring that he wouldn't). Not to mention that certain characters are pointless and only there to increase the film's bodycount.
- The utterly boring story. While it is nice to see Dr. Grant again, the story is really boring, focusing on a couple of bathroom store owners trying to get their kid back. Whoo. Not only is this really dull, but it also has several plot holes throughout the story (i.e. how Ellie Sattler can get the military to save Grant, but the bathroom store owners couldn't convince the US embassy to save their son).
- The bland setpieces. These are poor as not only do you not care about the characters, but due to their often poor editing (mainly the frequent quick cuts) it makes it hard to tell what is going on.
- The terrible designs on the dinosaurs. While the effects are good, the designs of the dinosaurs are often hideous, making the film hard to look at at times.
- The failed attempts at humour.
- "Alan!"
- A phone ringing inside a dinosaur.
- The pointless "dramatic parts", as they are often so short, they leave little impact on the audience.
- The alarming ending, whereby pterodactyls are flying away from the island, potentially going to eat people around the world, but is portrayed as something wondrous.
- Breaking up Grant and Ellie for no reason.
- The plot conveniences (i.e. the hole in the electric fence, the kid running into Dr. Grant).
- Being utterly boring throughout. 88 minutes has never felt so long.
- Killing off a great franchise for over a decade.
- Tea Leoni's dreadful performance.
- The unnecessary overly violent parts.
- Being one of the worst sequels ever made.
In my opinion, and to many others, that is why Jurassic Park 3 sucks.

I like the third one too. It's much better than the second one.
Why? It's just a fun ride, nothing more. You get what you expect and wish for. Dinosaurs chasing, killing and eating people. No need to go any further than that.
The one thing I have issues with are the effects and Tea Leoni. The effects look so fake and Tea was jsut annoying. But other than that a good film
Jurassic World was really good though, and the best after the first one. I can't wait to watch it again.
How anyone can think the effects are worse than in the 3rd one is beyond me. -

While both sequels are flawed (I'll give you that), the third one is way worse than the second one. While the second one was an entertaining popcorn flick, the third one is no fun, as it has utterly boring characters, and the set pieces are poor, as not only do you not care for the characters, but the quick cut editing and weak shooting of the scenes makes the set pieces hard to see and therefore aren't enjoyable. Meanwhile, the amount of unintentionally funny moments in the film make it harder to get take seriously and to get engaged in.

Admittedly, I don't watch that many summer blockbusters, but my point still stands. The first two (and the fourth one) had great action scenes, and they were well paced without the need for quick cut editing. Here though, they solely rely on such editing to create the illusion of fast and intense action scenes, but instead get really annoying really fast.

Yeah, you realize that the Jurassic Park franchise is supposed to be more than that right? You want dinosaurs chasing and eating people, and nothing more, watch a SyFy original. The Jurassic Park series was always about scientific ideas, concepts and of course Dinosaurs (and help to update the publics perceptions of them as animals. Jurassic Park 3, and to an extent, Jurassic World both failed at this, but Jurassic World managed to bring some science in, even if it chose to ignore it later.

- They should've roped Malcolm along with Grant.
- In Ellie's defense, her husband worked for the State Department specializing in International treaties.
- They were responding much too nonchalant about the Pterosaurs apparently escaping the island.

Um, William H Macy, when he is doing his thing as an actor is more interesting and engaging than almost ANYTHING out in theaters right now. But, like a child that didn't get what it wants on Christmas, you throw a fit because this movie didn't live up to all of your petty standards.
BUT, anyone with half a brain can see that these actors have far more heart and soul in every line read than almost everything out there today. They believe what they're saying. They seem to have actually lived these characters lives. That puts JP3 one up on its sequel and a lot of B-movie blockbusters since. -

I have nothing against William H Macy nor most of the cast (apart from the dreadful Tea Leoni). But a film has to have more merit than just its performances, and in that regard JP3 is utter garbage, for all the reasons I've cited. And if I'm being petty and whiny because I don't like the film, why do you think its so good? For someone moaning about me being harsh towards this film, you don't refute my arguments outside of the acting, which I don't have much of a problem with anyway.
