Back in the days of sail it wasn't an uncommon occurrence for shipwrecked sailors to end up stranded on deserted or uncharted islands. The lucky ones eventually got rescued by passing ships - sometimes years later. The less fortunate either died of starvation, dehydration, deadly critters, or cannibals. -
