Why don't the Gundams and GMs work together?

It seems odd that the different MS Teams seem to operate separately type-wise when it comes to Gundams and GMs: Gundams fight in one team, GMs fight in another. Wouldn't it make more sense for a few Gundams to work alongside a handful of GMs, countering the weakness of the GM design?

^^ Bad writing?
It goes for all Gundam shows no matter how much a Zaku or a Leo or a whatever gets totally destroyed in waves by Gundams, the opposing forces rarely come up with a new strategy to fight them other than attack head first in. This must be why they always lose then.

Well if it follows Air Force protcol, (which I'm guessing it does since Mobile Suit pilots are referred to as just that: PILOTS) then become an ace after you shoot down around 3 or 4 enemy units. With the massive numbers of fighter jets, mobile suits, and other types of planes they each have, I would guess that there would be a bunch of aces on both sides.

It doesn't always work like that. In Gundam 0083 they only had one gundam, the rest of the mobile suits on board the Albion were GM variants and they all worked together.
Plus that's just one example, it's happened plenty of times.
