This movie is pretty powerful, and tells you what a state the armed forces are in.
At the end it came up with some footnotes, and normally these are put when it is a true account.

i doubt it was a true story.
But, its possible, and if something like this happened, im sure you would hear about it.

This was not a true story. It was based on a book by Neslon DeMille.

Maybe it was an extreme composite with great dramatic license of all the sexual assault cases that are reported on military academies and with active duty personel.

You mean like in Animal House, American Graffitti and Kelly's Heroes?

I came on-line just to find out this question. Is it true or memorex?
Frankly speaking, tghe only reason I went to see this movie in the theater when it first came out was because of the return of Madeline Stowe, who had taken a hiatus from movie making. Great looking gal, pretty good actress when given a good part, etc. To think of this ending, where they want to make you think its a true story, well, I find it completely disingenious; typical for such crummy movie.
Over-acting reigned supreme in this movie. Including Travolta and Stowe.

I've read on several sites that's it's based on a true story. Here's one:

It was based on a novel, that I heard itself was
                      loosely
                      based on a true story!

Kind of like Texas Chainsaw Massacre was "based on a true story"? (i.e. butchered to the point that the original story is virtually unrecognizable)
Don't look now, but I think the monotremes are out to get me

I read the novel quite a while back but I don't recall anything indicating that "The General's Daughter" was based on true events.
