Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Training Day

    Haasdas — 9 years ago(August 16, 2016 05:12 PM)

Watching Ethan Hawke in Training Day was a marvelous example of a supporting actor really living up to that title. Denzel Washington Is a major star and leading man who needed an actor that could compete with him , without taking the focus off the leading man .
The one scene with Ethan Hawke in The Bath Tub was such a highly charged intense and harrowing scene I still feel the tension when I rewatch it again.
"Are You A Wolf Or A Sheep?"

I love this film and have since 2001. All these years I have considered Denzel's performance to be the major draw here. And it is excellent, incredibly entertaining and magnetic. But having just watched it for the first time in years, I was highly impressed with Hawke. Probably just as great of a performance as Denzel. The scenes with him high on PCP are great too.

        Dear Friend,
The absolute tension and highly volatile atmosphere had me gripped when I watched it In the theater in '01.
Probably cause I've been in those awkward brittle moments on drugs and you're not sure if they're F%kcing with you or not.
Not to drop names or brag about a star.
I coincidentally bumped into Ethan Hawke 3 weeks ago and chatted. And when I recognized it was him I said "ETHAN, YOU A SHEEP OR A WOLF?"
Ethan responded "I'M A SHEEP MAN!"
Spoke with him for around 30 minutes.
Let me tell you, you're not gonna meet a more grounded and unassuming star as he is. So mellow and happy to talk shop.
I've always rated Ethan since "Dead Poets Society " and let me tell you .
Ethan Hawke is pure Soul my friend, pure Soul.

I agree. Too bad everything else he's done since except maybe Assault on Precinct 13 has been total crap.

            Hi friend,
I'd love to disagree with you but I can't.
He does a load of indie work and seems pretty happy with his lot in life.
Magnificent Seven was utter beep but probably put bacon on the table. Clearly a true artist in his field. But perhaps does too much work to his detriment.
Did an indie movie directed by Daniel Day Lewis' wife which was okay. Boyhood he held his own but your point is taken.

Ethan Hawke was excellent in his role.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.

                  Equally as good as Denzel.

I agree! Is it me, or does he look like pornstar Manuel Ferrara?

Why did Jake tell Smiler he has a little girl, and why will Smiler care about this one, hana!?

Jake was trying to stop Smiley from killing him, so that's why he told Smiley that.
