Two questions - Dr. Saunders and Dr. Larson the actual docs? Doing a quick search, I couldn't find anything to show that they were. I was wondering about that ending with Dr. Saunders getting schmucked by the truck.

I thought that was a really clever way to end the movie in a "we don't know how to end this movie, let's just have him get creamed by a semi-truck, cut to credits!" way.
