According to Wikipedia this movie was based on a book. So that means Peter Berg adapted the screenplay but did not originally write it. (Isn't he credited as writing and directing or am I mistaken?) Does anyone have any insight into this? I guess I should click on the links posted earlier where Peter Berg discussed the movie and my question might be answered but just thought I'd post this first anyway. Thanks!

It's weird
IMDb doesn't credit another writer but Wikipedia does? And Wikipedia has no source for that info. But the credited author "Gene Brewer" mostly writes sci-fi like K-PAX and his early novels are mostly magic realism type stories.
(Then there's the movie Stag that came right before this one.)
Feels like someone made up that bit about "based on a book".
It's just a nasty, noisy little story spun from the nastiest part of Peter Berg's mind, I think. -

You're right. I think it's much the same thing as Fargo being 'based on a true story'.
Never defend crap with 'It's just a movie'
