I watched this movie yesterday on a Netflix DVD.
The overlapping dialogue - usually of 4 or 5 shouting men - made understanding each character's words and intent difficult. I often watch movies in the English language with English subtitles, so I make sure to understand words that may not come over clean in the soundtrack.
However, that DVD does not have an English (or any other language) subtitling option. Robert Altman's movies often had overlapping dialogue, and the audience usually could understand what was going on with the mix of voices and didn't need subtitling. Not on Peter Berg's effort here.
Berg's dialogue came across so fast and furious on the screen that it would definitely have been more effective, if subtitling had been a viewer option for slower viewers like me. But, subtitling in

may have been deliberately not available because of the filmmakers' inability to do it well.
