What was there to indicate that Gary wasn't going to die like Sally's first husband did? Just because someone doesn't believe in gravity doesn't mean they can fly. Why would curses [in the universe of the film] be any different?

Ya, I do think the curse broke when they did the ritual at the end to save Gillian's life. It showed a quick flashback of the original relative that cast the curse. She was smiling and all that went on during the ritual, I believe, broke the curse.

I think it was also that the women in the town came to support even tho they were originally against them. They now had the support of the towns women (unlike their ancestor who started the curse and was hated by the women in the town). These ladies actually cared and came to help them which is what changed everything and destroyed the curse.
