    I thought Annie really did die in the end and when they show her living with the child on the beach I thought that was a scene of theme living happily in heaven.

      Interesting take, which would also imply the child was killed? Sort of a bittersweet thought.

        That was Mary, and not Annie. And it's clearly implied in the film that she survived by going back to her village in Ireland, not heaven. The Ripper butchered the girl who was from Brussels.
