I simply love this movie, damnit! Over the years, I've watched it countless of times and everytime it nevers loses any of the greatness from time before. It's too bad there are many who'll never even chance watching this cause "ewww it's gross and horrible how the women were killed, etc." Yes, I agree, but its done in a ways that's not offensive but close still to accurate photos of the crime scenes of the time.
Several theories abound who Jack the Ripper, the most recent one being this year in this article

I like the theory from the film by far the most, hands-down, regardless of the others. It really all makes sense and piece together as the most logical one.
Depp is great in this, Ian Holm is excellent as always and even Heather Graham, probably the finest actress performance in recent memory. And finally kudos to the Hughes Bros. for tackling the challenges I'm sure that set up as this screenplay and then directing proceeded. They did as good as any director and crew could hope for but these two gave a beep enough to actually get it done.
I wish this film had more followers and better and more accurate reviews as it deserves. Perhaps not as it can be closer to a hidden treasure on those worthy and care of history, filmmaking and ultimately just how cruel all humans truly can be. Then and now.
Thanks to anyone who cares. Fact is fact so I posted this cause needs to be out there! -

This movie flopped because it came out right after the September 11th terrorist attacks. People didn't feel like seeing movies and most of the films that came out around that time were flops (Glitter probably the most famous)
And let's be honest, women getting killed is a staple of horror films so that shouldn't be the problem.
