Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Lolita

He wanted to relive the life that was taken from him. But he chose a girl who was simply not compatible with him. And the age made all the difference. As he said, he should've walked away from that hotel that day.
Lo on the other hand was just a young a free spirited girl. In other words, pure destruction for someone like Humbert looking for true love and companionship. And of course she went to whatever pasture was greener. It's in her nature to do that.
I hope when Humbert died, he got to live in a place and have true companionship with that girl who died when he was young.
I can't really say much else about Lo, but she was young and dumb. And Humbert only made it worse. She would've been a normal girl without him. True, she was gorgeous and full of life, but she was just too young. And anyone who's been in love long enough knows it's the mind you love not the body. Lo just didn't have what Humbert truly wanted. He got the beginning, but Lo could've never gave him fulfillment.
Sad movie. But hey at least he blasted that prick Quilty in the end. I particularly liked the part with him running away and his wang going back and forth and he scurried into the other room. If there was evil in this movie, it was him.

      Indeed.
We accuse Humbert but something froze in him when he lost his first love to Tpyphus. But he was the adult in the equation and should have restrained himself. Delores was not even resemblant of his first love but she was a born flirt and toyed with him.

As I said in a previous post on here, Humbert was a victim of his own feelings and experiences. It's easy to say that he simply should've restrained himself, but in reality it's not that easy.
And to be honest, there was a slight physical resemblance between Lolita and Annabel. So it's understandable why Humbert never gave up. He was a tortured soul for sure.
You can see it in the movie: he was trying to be a step father, but his feelings inside were taking over. He knew very well that what he doing was wrong, but he couldn't help it.
The death of Annabel marked him for life.

How about the fact that she was a minor, who was way too sexualised for her age and he was a pedophile. He was the adult and should of run a million miles when those urges hit. Actually this movie grosses me out. Think I'll pass on watching it.
