Anyone else find Travis unnecessary

Travis was in no way Justin's son.
Don't even know where that came from - nothing points to it in the film.

He absolutely was necessary. How is that lost to so many? He was abandoned like Birdie and Bernice but he shared his grandmothers quirkiness and was still joyful inspire of that. The kids were the funniest part. Without him, it would've been less funny.
