I will probably get beep for this, but I don't think Viggo is a very good actor at all. Usually, his crappy performances take me right out of the movie.
However he is really great in this. I saw this movie in the theaters and now ten years later I just watched it again. I had forgotten Viggo was the master chief.
He does such a good job in this, really fantastic. Wonder where his talent went.

didn't go anywhere. he was right for the part, but he has always had limited range.

i've seen his "range" (especially in Easter Promises), and it is limited. I like him as an actor, and he is good at what he does, but it is limited.

One of the reasons you forgot he was in the movie was because he looks so different in every movie. That is the hallmark of a great actor.
