My friend and her family (who are all very normal and sane) say they saw fairies years ago on holiday in the south of England. They can describe their appearance and clothing when you ask them about it. What's interesting is my friend says that although she knows she saw them, she doesn't believe in fairies.

I believe in them, I think I saw one once when I was younger. I also believe in brownies/elves because I am even more possitive I saw one in my house, only the shadow though. My aunt also believes. I can also say I believe in minimoys, because they are incredibly small, besides, who knows.

"I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?"

The ones from old Celtic and Norse tales aren't exactly of the Tinkerbell variety. They are supposed to just be spirits of some sort that aren't human, or in reference to some of the Asian religions- demonic, or angelic, but can take on a physical appearance and have certain other characteristics liek behavioral patterns.
I guess it depends on how one can look at such entities. If you believe in human spirits or to another level demonic or even angelic spirits, it's not much of a stretch. Likewise if you look at the subject of aliens, do you believe other lifeforms are limited to beings from other planets composed of cells?; how about other dimensions or other realities with different laws of nature, etc.? Where does one's potential beliefs end and where would categorizations of these other entities end in terms of using terms like fairies and spirits if the terms describe things similar to these potential alien entities? Could these alien entities be composed of sentient energy of some sort, would that not be similar to the description of various spirits and so fairies? Could they be entities from other universes interacting with our own willingly or not? There are so many possibiities there.
What I'm getting at is that we'd dismiss something like a fairy based on a word and the image of Tinerbell like creatures, but a spirit is more likely accepted by some, and better yet an alien lifeform would be more accepted by those with a more modern scientific bent. I couldn't tell you if they exist, in a way I try not to be dismissive of anything while taking life as it comes (and so if it effects me more directly I'll pay these possibilities more heed), but we could just be looking at such things from the wrong perspective. I'd take such cases on an individual basis, but the belief in them doesn't seem to really effect the world in any real negative way on a general or individual basis, so I have no problem with those believing in that way either. It would be neat if there were any truth to such things though.
