Jackson goes into his monologue about his father's traumatic death when the scene cuts away to her reaction, the expression on her face is one of total and utter BOREDOM!!! I could practically hear her thinking "Oh God, I'm bored. Can we talk about something else now?" Her thoughts seemed more on the ridiculous Manson girl wig she had to wear. It caught me off guard. I thought it was too funny.
Within her extremely limited range, I guess I think Gwyneth is not a bad actress, but when pressed to display something outside her own admittedly somewhat charismatic personality (I find her to be a more attractive variation on the repulsively self-centered Julia Roberts), she can get a little clumsy.
IMO, Gwyneth does have a certain kind of charisma. But it is also a kind of
    bland
charisma. Which is kind of tough to explain. And, going OT here, but the main difference between her and Julia Roberts, for me, is that Paltrow seems clueless to the point of being almost dumb. And that perpetual look of a kind of dense boredom in a way gives Gwyneth the edge for me.
Put another way, I can totally see Julia Roberts, who is not dumb at all, as having sociopathic tendencies; whereas Gwyneth seems more like she has just been extremely spoiled and sheltered her whole life.

      Watch "Proof." You'll be surprised.

Yeah, she's quite good in some movies.

"Bland" only in the sense as a glass of crystal clear cool soothing water might be considered by some as bland. Gwyneth is like a tall, cool moving liquid. Luv her natural grace and she is a fine actor. My favorites are Great Expectations and View From the Top. She has had an amazing life, being born into The Business. Hope she writes her memoirs someday.
