I keep seeing only parts of this because my new DVD player with Amazon Prime keeps being unresponsive to my remote control.
However, it appears to me that the slaves in Africa were taken by other black Africans. is that true? And it looked to me as though his wife was on the side of the captors since when he was being dragged away, she and her son just nonchalantly walked away, indicating complicence. Did I understand that wrong?

Yes, Africans were kidnapped by other Africans and sold to slave traders. His family wasn't complicit they just didn't hear what was happening.
