I would just like to point out that, according to the timeline, Colonel Neidermeyer should not exist. At the end of Animal House, when they are doing all the freeze frame "where are they now" stuff, it is said that Neidermeyer is killed in The Vietnam War. By his own troops.
This movie was shot in '96 and I assume takes place in the same time period. Vietnam ended in '75.
    Just sayin.
Shouldn't exist, unless Neidermeyer can magically come back from the dead

Or he was only believed to have been killed.
Maybe he was so pissed at his own men for trying to "frag" him, that he let them believe they succeeded. When the coast was clear, he moved out and started gathering "his troops" for this movie.

Do we ever get reason to believe it's the SAME Neidermeyer? For instance, do we get his first name, Doug? Because in the segment of The Twilight Zone directed by John Landis, one of the men in the squad lost in Vietnam states, "I told you guys we shouldn't have shot Lieutenant Niedermeyer!" Seems pretty final, that does.
Maybe Landis is just trying to mess with us.
I'm thinking evil twin. I mean, who says both twins can't be evil?

Or it could be a different Colonel Neidermeyer, who just so happens to have an uncanny likeness to the other Neidermeyer.
          Or y'knowit's just a movie.
