He swore on the bible and lied to save John and Tommy but they did nothing with it. I would like to think he found his forgiveness in god and let it go But I bet he regretted it later and felt guilt for doing what he did. What do you think?

No I don't think he regretted in the fiction world but this movie has been widely criticized as not true. Enjoy the movie for what it is

I think more specifically he lied for the sake of retribution for all four of the boys. I don't think he ever expected John and Tommy to use it to clean the slate.

He made peace with it. I guess in his mind he knew what those two kids went through in that boys' home and the fact that they were too afraid to tell him as kids where he could've gotten Nokes out of there as a result made him decide that this will be some sort of save for them. Although in the end, they did get killed in the future.
