The aspect of mythologizing and worldbuilding was extraordinarily shallow. Like if you had to describe the sort of ruler the villain was or even what country it took place in, you couldn't really answer. There were random hamlets, a dragon in a waterfall, forests, and some random small castle in the middle of nowhere. To me, this was the biggest weakness of this film. There are fantasy movies with less that were able to create a full mythology and time and place, like Highlander for instance.

Yes it's true but the filmmakers said in the commentary that it was set in Anglo Saxon England before the Crusade Era because the whole "shining knight" from the 14th-15th Century look for some fantasy films was "done to death" according to them! Honestly, as much as I still love this movie, I would have loved if it specified the region they were in. But at least "Romans" were mentioned so it could have been Britannia after the Romans left it.
