Does anyone think Sheriff Dollard and Virgil hooked up?

I know it's a big stretch, BUTthere are a few things that could make it possible;
-Dollard definitely seemed like a closet case - especially after his "men touching men" speech in the bar. In fact, he said all that stuff out loud in a straight bar where everyone could hear him. Maybe as the night progressed, he put the moves on a drunken Virgil? He did kind of give him a long once-over when Virgil arrives.
-When Virgil walks into the bar, he is clearly not wearing his wedding ring - maybe he was out to score? This doesn't mean that he would hook up with a guy, but he could have been bisexual. Maybe his repression of his sexuality made him angry and abusive to Carol Ann?
-Dollard and Virgil don't show up in Snydersville until the next afternoon. If Virgil told Dollard about the drag queens in town, why would it have taken so long for Dollard to show up and arrest them (with Virgil showing up right after he did!).
I think they had a drunken hook-up and woke up late the next morning! -

but why do you think it took them so long to show up?
Plot contrivance. They showed up the next day when Snydersville's ladies (and men) were dressed in red for the Strawberry Festival and could all claim to be drag queens in order to protect their new friends."I miss Dwight. Congratulations, Universe. You win."

When Virgil enters the bar, he asks Dollard: "Is that your shoe?" A heel! Why would he ask that?! I think that's a sign, yes they hook up but they couldn't show that in a movie, too heavy for a comedy. Or maybe they didn't find a way to make it funny, though it would've been if they were shown waken up next to each other not remembering anything don't you think?

but I'm free
