Although this film refers to these three as drag queens, I think that today they would be considered transgender. I always thought drag queens, or transvestites, were people who sort of moonlight as the opposite sex on occasion. These people were living as women even behind closed doors.. Their speech, mannerisms, clothing, etc never changed. Funny how as a society our views and terminology have changed so much, even since the 90's.

Noxeema explains this to Chi Chi early on in the film. When a "straight" man gets his sexual kicks from dressing up in women's clothing, he is a transvestite. When a man is a woman trapped inside a male body and has the little operation, he is a transsexual. When a "gay" man has way too much fashion sense for one gender, he is a drag queen. This could be considered a simplistic explanation; but the by this notion, I would say the film is referring to the latter about it's characters. They are "gay" men, who like to dress in drag and this was very evident and pronounced in the film. PRISCILLA had a TG character; but this film didn't really allude to it's characters as being gender confused.

I don't think views and terminology have changed so much since the 90's, not really a far-away time for me. I have not seen the filmbut they may not have made it clear. Transsexual has always had one meaning.
