I thought the hug looks really violent too! It almost looked like he was gonna rip her head off. But I think he was just so sorry and upset it wasnt gonna work out between the two of them due to his overwhelming guilt, and he just pulled her really close to his body.
I dont dont about the 2nd question, i was curious too.

I too have always wondered why he jerked her head around like that as well. She is so fragile compared to his large masculine frame, I figured he would have hurt her. But I think that he was so upset and just didn't know how to show it. Wasn't Bukowski a friend of Seans who passed away?

Bukowski refers to Henry Charles Bukowski, a "skid row poet" who influenced and touched a lot of artists in movies and music. Bono references several Bukowski works on U2's Zooropa. Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam often spoke of Bukowski's influence, and in his first band had a song that referenced reading Bukowski. most recently, Matt Dillon starred in Factotum, based on a Bukowski novel. Leonardo DiCaprio grew up with Bukowski as a neighbor.
Bukowski's writing was raw and edgy and often cathartic. nobody ever wrote like him before and likely nobody ever will again. he had a sincere machismo about him. god i love his prose.

charles bukowskia drunk.. a fool and a genius..
2 movies were made about him..one called " barfly" with mickey rourke amd the other i cant remember what it was called but it had matt dillon in it..i think it was called factorum. -

I'm glad someone brought up the head-turning scene, because I found it shocking. I thought Booth was attacking her for a moment, and even when I replayed it after I knew is was just an act of passion, it looked violent.
I suspect David Morse just became overwhelmed with the drama of the moment, and Robin Wright went along with it. It's very awkward, though, and I'm sure they discussed it afterward. There's so much about that scene that works, though, that they didn't want to lost the momentum with another take.
And by now, you know who Charles Bukowski is. -

get the movie BarFly with Mickey Rourke and Faye Dunaway. Mickey Rourk plays Charles Bukowski, the poet, in the movie.
and as an added bonus, there is a shot of Faye Dunaway'a absolutely KILLER LEGS!!!
