That seemed to be the major sorepoint for Artie Piscano, that he was spending his own money to go out to Vegas to keep an eye on things. That's what he kept complaining about and it's why he started keeping records which would later be used as evidence of Mob involvement in the skim.

Thats not why he kept records. This character is mostly Carl Deluna. Deluna always kept records. It was his personality. Which lead to a connect the dots for the FBI to crack down in the 80s.
But yes I agree, pay the man! Not how Nick Civella thought about things.
