Okay, I've just finished watching the first season (for the first time ever), and here's how I rate the episodes from 1 to 5.
The Sandkings - ****
Sets the tone for the series, also a great performance by Beau Bridges.
Valerie 23 - ***
Kinda average story about an android gone mad, elevated by the performance of William Sadler.
Blood Brothers - ** 1/2
Kinda lackluster with a predictable ending.
Second Soul - ****
One of my favorites of the season, innovative, suspenseful and I truly liked the twist at the end.
White Light Fever - ** 1/2
It was generally long and boring, but had a nice atmosphere, I really thought about death and stuff after watching it.
The Choice - ***
Okay episode, but predictable with a generic witchcraft story.
Virtual Future - ** 1/2
Great villain performance by David Warner, otherwise predictable and not really suspenseful.
Living Hell - ***
Nice serial killer story with an interesting general idea, otherwise average
Corner of the Eye - **
Overally silly, overblown and badly directed.
Under the Bed - **
Starts well and offers an intriguing tale, but gradually evolves into a stupid monster hunt with a laughable monster
Dark Matters - ***
Generally enjoyed it. Nothing special.
The Conversion - ****
A heartwarming tale, I enjoyed it, as well as the performance of the actors
Quality of Mercy - *****
The first true masterpiece of the series. It haunts you. Enough said.
The New Breed - *** 1/2
Suspenseful tale of science gone awry with creative ideas.
The Voyage Home - ***
Has its merits, but also several weaknesses, including a truly awful looking monster.
Caught in the Act - *** 1/2
A suspenseful and well-crafted and well-directed tale, only ruined by the ending.
The Message - *** 1/2
Another heartwarming episode I throughoutly enjoyed, again with great acting.
I, Robot - ****
Remake of a classic episode, neverthless it's a fine one which I all out enjoyed. Special fondness for Leonard Nimoy.
If These Walls Could Talk - * 1/2
Despite a fine performance by Dwight Schultz, it's probably the worst segment of the season with a truly idiotic twist and (even for its time) godawful CGI.
Birthright - **** 1/2
Another great one, among the best episodes of the season.
The Voice of Reason - ****
Despite basically being a clip show, it was throughoutly enjoyable and had a great twist at the end.
OVERALL RATING: 3,09
"A voice from behind me reminds me. Spread out your wings you are an angel."
