Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Drew Carey Show

We should start a petition to get this show streaming on netflix. That would be awesome. They don't show re-runs anymore. It is impossible to watch this show anymore and that is unfortunate. Like i said, it would be perfect for netflix.

"On April 24, 2007, Warner Home Video released the complete first season of The Drew Carey Show on DVD in Region 1. The WB has released a statement in which it said that the reason as to why the second season has yet to be released as of 2012 is because of music that is copyrighted. It is unknown if the remaining eight seasons will ever be released."
a petition will not help at all

They got the wonder years on Netflix and it had just as much music rights questions. Could always change the music like they did for the wonder years wouldn't be the same but better then nothing.

I hate how you can get the entire series of Friends out on DVD, but a GOOD show like DCS is just one and done. What a crummy world.

Honestly, some shows are produced with more of an eye toward doing well in reruns and video release than others. Some shows don't work if you watch them out of order, and others have music copyright problems. Others are so mired in pop culture references, they are incomprehensible five years later. One of the reasons that the original
            Law & Order
did so well in reruns was that Dick Wolf had reruns and video in mind when he began producing it. The first couple of seasons were even carefully done to maintain the Law/Order division at the half hour mark, so that the show could be shown in a 1/2 hour rerun slot. If you watch the first few episodes, the "law" and "order" parts almost do stand alone.
            Friends
had plenty of pop references, but not as many as other shows; instead of a lot of pop culture references, it had a lot of in jokes, and slang of its own. It also had its melodrama that continued from one episode to the next, but most of the episodes stand alone very well.
            All in the Family
was a groundbreaking show, but it doesn't hold up well, because people don't get a lot of the references, and also because a lot of the things that seemed daring them are tame now.
            The Brady Bunch
was never great TV, but it's almost always been in reruns some place, because it touches on a lot of simple issues that all children go through, no matter what the decade. Now, it's probably dumb luck that
            The Brady Bunch
does well in reruns, but not that Friends does, and the producers of
            All in the Family
made a deliberate choice to make something that would be great in the moment, but not hold up over time.

Production hell (especially related to licensing and finance) is a green light for illegal downloading. Nobody should feel bad about torrenting the entire series.

there are sites that stream that are not netflix. google dare hub tv. i checked, they have drew carey.
i personally have never had netflix. i'm a cheap ass. and for sports i go to stream2watch(dot)me. i also do not have cable. there's an old saying, "200 channels and nothing to watch". what i can't stream i torrent, and can't find maybe %3 of everything i have ever looked for. including comics and software. not that those %3 are always available any other way anyhow. the hardest thing that took me a while to find was a tv show from my youth: http://www.imdb.com/board/10162796/?ref_=nv_sr_1
and when dvd's do come out, stuff my be changed as often was with beavis and butthead. a show so controversial episodes were often censored or edited after just one showing, meaning if you didn't record it to vhs the very first night of every new episode, then it was most likely altered in some way. not to mention all the music videos cut for copyright, something that was mentioned above. there is/was a torrent called king turd, has all the original stuff.
its really not that hard. just cause netflix is all you ever see anywhere you look does not mean it's all thats out there. it just means it charges too much to have such an inflated needless marketing budget. i mean c'mon, everyone knows what it is.

"The Drew Carey Show" is now being shown in syndication on the Laff network. The show airs in blocks of two shows each currently at 7p, 9p, and midnight (Eastern time)

Only partially. They cut episodes, like when Drew sprained his weenie.

UP network does the same with episodes of the show "Judging Amy". They don't think viewers notice the gaps in story lines. It's the only network that airs it (I watched it when it was still on the air, and afterward when it was in syndication on TNT network). Same for the Drew Carey Show, LAFF know fans of the show will watch anyway.
