having wathed this drama why are there scenes involving a child prostitute of 15 having sex with a crime lord, a sadist who beats her and gaggs her and forces her to call him daddy, why do we need to see such filth. she sucks off the crime lord cos he cant cum cos he is too old, why show this disturbing imagery

keep my opinions to myself er no i am entitled to my opinion we live in a free country. what i was trying to point out is that the way tracy is depicted is disturbing and it should of been portrayed in a more acceptable way.

I'm not trying to shut you up - I was just surprised you expected something less intense - but I guess maybe you did.
Tracy was a disturbed character - I don't know how else they could've portrayed her really. -

i was surprised at how seedy it portrayed escort girls and prostitutes as deranged junkies who only clients are sexual predators. now i know there are people like this out there but many prostitutes clients are succesful business men and celebrities who merely want sexual relief other than from there wifes. many escort girls also have a good standard of living. another thing which disturbed me was tracy who is portrayed as underage whore im highly surprised the filmakers werent more tasteful and had her portrayed as older ie coletes age 19/20 would of been more acceptable its just disturbing havin a child whore in these scences.

I think that was the point that the filmmakers were trying to make about Tracy. She's f-ed up and so young and a lot of that, if not the only reason, had to do with what her father did to her.
I took the series as portraying a side of prostitution, I don't think it was intended to be the definitive portrayal of the oldest proffesion in the book.

This doesn't make prostitution feel any less seedy in my book. But I think what you wanted to see from this film is not what this film was supposed to be. Whatever. At the end of the day, I thought the series was good drama and very well acted/filmed. -

99% of street walking prostitutes are drug users.
Regarding the underage sex part, it happens one way or another in every town, so why sanitise that little bit? It happens and it is naive to think it doesn't. I found that aspect of it very interesting, espeically how it affected Tracy's relationship with Rose. It is meant to be disturbing, I'd be more worried if those scenes weren't disturbing! -

thats a point i picked up on as well i think tracy thinks that having sex with people is normal regardless of age or father/mother figure hence why she comes onto to rose in one of the episodes which rose responds that her father has warped her mind. the fact that there are underage prostitutes is sick and i think there should be greater government intervention. On a side not would it make the people who have sex with tracy paedophiles in this show or do you think they didnt know she was underage. it doesnt seem to be black and white in this show more shades of grey.
what were your thoughts?

My thoughts on greater government intervention would be to minimise the connection between prostitution and drugs. This obviously would not stop prostitution totally, but would hopefully make it safer and cut crime in general. This could be achieved by building more prisons and therefore harsher punishments for drug dealers (and possibly rehab in prison for prolific users), combined with more rehab funding and legislation regarding brothels.
The best step of course would be to catch the children before they go down that path, which would mean better child protection agencies and improved inter-agency communication. Unfortunately, the nature of family life being behind closed-doors, there will always be children who slip through the net. -

There are many underage prostitutes on the streets who are forced to deal with sadists and all sorts of horrible people and situations. Thats the way it is and for Band of Gold to pretend otherwise would be dishonest. Some prostitutes make a good living but they are usually call girls not streetwalkers. Most prostitutes like the ones depicted in Band of Gold lead very disturbing lives and if you don't want to see that depicted then its probably the wrong show for you.
