The methane gas would have killed him.
RIP to Andy whose rotting corpse is still in the pipe.

Have you ever heard of Suspension of Disbelief?
Suspension of disbelief, sometimes called willing suspension of disbelief, is the intentional avoidance of critical thinking or logic in examining something unreal or impossible in reality, such as a work of speculative fiction, in order to believe it for the sake of enjoyment. Aristotle first explored the idea of the concept in its relation to the principles of theater; the audience ignores the unreality of fiction in order to experience catharsis.
A lot of filmmakers believe it is essential for the viewer to be willing to suspend their disbelief in order to enjoy watching films. since you seem to be somewhat lacking in imagination maybe you should stick to documentaries? -

One thing that was off in that scene was how when he first busted into the pipe, a geyser of gross sewage went shooting up for a couple of seconds. But when he climbs in the pipe, it’s like a quarter full of liquid. The only way the poop water shoots up like that is if the pipe was pretty much full enough to cause that kind of pressure reaction. And the geyser didn’t last long enough for 3/4 of the pipe to have escaped out of that hole.

True.
And what gets to me is that the lightning and thunder happen simultaneously.
I have yet to experience that, It is always lightning then followed by thunder a few seconds afterwards.
Now I know that can happen but the storm has to be right on top of you.
So you mean to tell me that the night he chooses to escape there just happens to be a thunder storm and the prison is close enough to it for the T and L to happen simultaneously?
Way too many things fall into place for this to be believable IRL.

Well, there is some common sense from you here. King even wrote this in the novella.
Feasible that he would survive in the context of the story and the message, then yes, in that respect, we just need to accept that he did survive it.
Norman! What did you put in my tea?
