Kathy Bates was perfect in this part. You could feel every subtle emotion she went through. In Misery she was not as nuanced or deep and really just had to play crazy.
She says this is her favorite movie and I can see why.

Yes in both accounts. Bates got too many underserved accolades for Misery. While it was nice to see an actress win an Oscar for playing a psycho in a horror thriller, it was for the wrong film.
Glenn Close should have been awarded this a few years earlier for Fatal Attraction. She understood her character better.
