Does anybody feel that he came across as a bit of a uptight douche? It's almost as if he knew he had to put up a act despite knowing the truth.

That's his job, whatever he knows about his client - to do his best to discredit the opposing party to the best of his ability, make the plantiff appear unreliable, unstable, etc. (though as the trivia notes at a mediation he wouldn't even be cross-examining anyone the way he does here; they would be just laying out terms of agreement).
