1, 2 and 6 are connected, they follow the story line, while the others have their own story line, but they revolve around the same thing, an evil Corn Dieity that gets the children to murder the adults.

Well, part 6 doesn't technically follow part 2. It kind of omits part 2 and just continues 19 years after part 1 (which doesn't make sense because part 1 only came 15 years before part 6).

Yeah, I haven't seen past part 3 yet, but I know part 1 and 2 slightly go together, and 6 does too by the title, but WHY would you want to skip part 2?

They are right. COTC 3 has a few flash back scenes from COTC 2 and 1. But, otherwise it's a whole different film from the franchise. This one is the first of the many sequels to veer off into it's own direction. So, if you're really wanting to watch it without seeing part 2 I don't think that much would really be missed. I think you could still follow along pretty well.
Janice Van Meter got hit with a baseball. . . it was fabulous!

yes i think so. if you want continuity the ones to watch are 1, 2 and 6 since they follow each other fairly well. the others are really stand alone entries, each with their own plots and stories to them (kind of a anthology deal)

I'm one to usually suggest watching films in order. But, you could definitely watch this one without seeing the second. I would just suggest to watch the first.
