is there a reason…

that the rating on this movie is so lowi know it's not the godfather but it at least deserves a 6.5 or something. I think it is very funny and as opposed to his documentaries and recent bad mouthing of things, this is probably his best work.

Probably because alot of people don't find this movie as funny as you or I. The humor is unfortunately above the intelligence level of the average american.

Late to the party I know, but I think it's worth pointing out that a lot of the low ratings come from those lovingly Patriotic Americans who feel it's their duty to God and Country to rate all of the communist socialist fascist America hating old woman raping child beating Fat Pig Michael Moore's movies movies as a 1, so people know what a complete and utter scumbag leftist liberal pansy he is.

And friendsI think FirebirdCamaro here has just made my point for me. With two wordswelltechnically one word and a jumble of letters and symbols since he's apparently incapable of expressing in any kind of semi-intelligent manner, and showing a distinct lack of class, FirebrandCamaro is a perfect example.
(But that's what you say? You actually LIKE Michael Moore? I didn't check your post history before I posted?! Ahbut I did. Problem is, the humor of MY post seemed to have passed right over your head, because you're one of those sad angry liberal kiddies who can't put two and two together and see past the tip of your own nose. You sir, are a humorless snob, just like the very worst Republican troll.

I can usually spot sarcasm on these boards, and I didn't take your post to be sarcasm. And by the way, I'm not a kiddie, unless 26 year olds are no longer adults in this country (with the infantisation of our population though, maybe that's the case).

really? You didn't take someone who was clearly making fun of "God and Country!" Republicans from line two of his post as being sarcastic? I think perhaps you aren't quite as good at spotting sarcasm as you think you are.
As for being a kiddieyea, I read your bio. But you act like a kid, you shouldn't be angry if you get treated like a kid. -

to rta04:
maybe I did get rash with you (like a kid, as you say); but I am so sick of people bashing Michael Moore that I sometimes don't think clearly.

I want to apologize myself. I shouldn't have jumped down your throat for what was clearly a misunderstanding. I'm in the same boat. My parents are very much those God and Country right-wingers I was bashing, and it gets tiresome when people can so vehemently tell you why they hate someonewithout having ever watched a single piece of their work.

Yeah, that's probably true, too. There are a number of celebrities that are hated by some folks enough that they systematically go through all of their films here and give them a 1, whether they've seen the film or not.

A more nuanced reason might be that it can be a film where you have to watch "through" a bit of low budget murkkind of like looking through a smudgy window.
I agree it's a very funny and worthwhile film, but it's not exactly sleek, glossy, etc.
However, I also agree that much of the humor is likely to go over many folks' heads. Much of the film has a peculiar kind of very dry absurdism that's not the easiest thing to get, and a lot of it would understandably fly past people without the right cultural and historical references for contextlike being familiar with Love Canal, for just one example, or for a more important onebeing familiar with the infamous dichotomy between Niagara Falls as a tourist attraction and most of Niagara Falls, NY.
