When Axel gets on the Spider ride he cuts in front of 2 people, one of then looks incredibly similar to George Lucas.

Watching the movie now on This TV, yes that was George Lucas. John Landis cast a few directors and Ray Harryhausen as extras. Check the trivia section of BHC III and it will tell you who else is in the movie.
