Okay, as you all probably know, Monica gets fired from her job at the end of the episode for supposedly taking some steaks as a kickback. I've been watching this show for about 10 years now, and I've never really thought much of it before, but I was watching this episode tonight, and it kind of struck me
What is a kickback in this sense?
British girl here, so I don't really understand it's meaning for Americans. As I know it, kickback means to relax.
    Many thanks, guys 🙂

You should try the online dictionary. And I am not saying this with attitude, or to be a smart-ass. I mean literally, it's good to look when you're not sure.
The site, for future reference. It seems the best one. Because yes, all words have more than 1 meaning now, slang terms included.

      The definitions for kickback
      noun
      1.
a percentage of income given to a person in a position of power or influence as payment for having made the income possible: usually considered improper or unethical.
      2.
a rebate, usually given secretively by a seller to a buyer or to one who influenced the buyer.
      3.
the practice of an employer or a person in a supervisory position of taking back a portion of the wages due workers.
      4.
      a response, usually vigorous.
      5.
a sudden, uncontrolled movement of a machine, tool, or other device, as on starting or in striking an obstruction:

If you're gonna pretend to cut her hair, at least put some scissors in your hand!

Thank you for your response. I did attempt to look it up online before I posted, but for some reason the only results I was getting were for the slang meaning that I already knew.

Think of it like this. A steak distributor offers to sell steaks to the restaurant at $.30 a lb. while another steak distributor offers to sell them at $.50 a lb AND they'll give the head chef $20 in steaks weekly.
The owner needs to know that his representative is going to make the best deal for the business - not for themselves. It's an integrity issue.

That's a good way to explain it. Obviously Monica wasn't doing a seedy deal, but if the restaurant can't read her intention or has a zero tolerance policy, unfortunately Monica suffered the consequences.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.
