I'm not sure what you're asking? I know Tea Leone auditioned for the role of Rachel and was offered the role but turned it down for another series that was cancelled after 3 seasons. Elizabeth Berkley also auditioned and thank God didn't get the part she's a horrible wooden actress.
David played a part in the first attempt at a series about 3 married couples and their friendships. They couldn't get a network to buy the series so they reworked the concept and just became friends. David had the original role on the first series and when they were creating the characters for Friends, the character of Ross was written specifically with him in the role and almost turned it down. If I remember correctly he was doing a play in Chicago at the time and was hesitated. They auditioned the actor from Will and Grace but David finally made up his mind and signed on.
The character of Joey was a lot different then how the character was originally conceived. He wasn't dumb or an actor. Hank Azaria auditioned not once but twice. Then, Matt came along and perceived Joey as a male bimbo, not too bright and won the producers and network executives over.
Jon Cryer was the original actor hired to play Chandler in the early development of the series when it was called One of Six. He was working in London in a play and failed to send an audition tape by the deadline. He lost the part (his bio goes into it a bit more and the book is funny as hell). Jon Favreau and Craig Bierko were both in the running for Chandler and Matthew actually helped Craig develop the character a little more since they were friends and auditioned for the same parts over the years. Matthew went into audition and won the role even though NBC wanted Bierko but relented and went with Perry.
Courteney was the most known actress prior to Friends. She had just had a huge hit movie, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and was originally offered both Rachel and Monica. She found Monica the more interesting character and chose her for the role. Leah Remini did audition for the role of Monica and obviously didn't get it once Courteney chose which role she wanted. Jami Gertz auditioned and was offered the part but she didn't want to be tided down to a series and turned it down. Nancy McKeon also auditioned. Jennifer Aniston also auditioned for Monica.
Finally, Phoebe was a totally different character then when the casting call went out. Some well known ladies auditioned for the role Kathy Griffin, Jane Lynch, Lar Park-Lincoln, Janeane Garofalo and Ellen Degeneres. Ellen was offered the role of Phoebe but she turned it down. The Producer saw Lisa in the role of Ursula on Mad About You and asked her to audition for Phoebe. She was originally conceived to be a smartass know-it-all, then a goth girl but the creators didn't think it would work well with the other characters and changed the character until they decided she would be a girl, free loving child of the 1970's vibe.
They chose the right actors in their correct roles/characters. And, nothing against the other actors, with the exception of Elizabeth Berkley (I'm not a fan of Garofalo's either) all are talented actors but it would be hard trying to picture them in any of these roles. I'm not sure if that answered your question though. -

Other than Tea (Rachel) and Jamie (Monica), who both passed on the show. I don't know of any actor who wanted the part but couldn't accept the role because they were under contract to another production other than Matthew Perry who was under contract for a really bad show on ABC. He wanted to sign for Friends and wanted out of that bad show quickly, he waited for a few weeks waiting for the word if it would get cancelled. It did and he was able to get an audition, if he couldn't the part was offered to Craig Bierko who passed.

I found that post very interesting and informative. Learned some stuff.
Still made me laugh how they started it with "not sure what you're asking" and then goes on to reply to the post with that detailed and informative message
I doubt that poster will be losing sleep over lack of a response though lol

Haha! I didn't even catch that "not sure what you're asking" part!
"Here, I don't know what you're saying, but allow me to unload this cornucopia of information upon thee!"
