The film is supposed to take place in 1962. Benny wears an LA Dodgers hat in the entire movie. They were still located in Brooklyn back then.

Well, in this case I can confirm that Wikipedia is correct. The Dodgers' first season in LA was 1958.

1962 was the debut season of the New York Mets, who were formed in order to bring a National League team back to New York City, as both the Giants and the Dodgers moved to the West Coast in the late 1950s.
The only error to add is yours.
