I loved this film, and Janet was outstandingbut did the writers have to have her chewing that gum
constantly
?! It was so distracting.
Anyone agree?

ABSOLUTELY! Its one of my pet peeves when people chew gum while they're talking and she did it CONSTANTLY in this movie! Love the movie and love her, but definitely agree that that was annoying!

Janet was horrible in this role. I'm watching it right now and I had forgotten how bad she was.
janet is a talented person, but acting in this movie was a definite weak point and its pretty embarrassing.
and yes..the gum chewing was unnecessary and made me wanna kick her right in the teeth. -

It was part of the street girl behaviour (even white actress do that when they want to play a street smart cookie) in a lot of hoods that is what black chicks do chew gum like cows chewing cod, drink grape soda, eat fried chicken and BBQ at the park, its part of the coloured girls sassiness just like some southern folks dip snuff and mexicano guys wear wife beaters with khakispart of inner city culture(Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Newark, East Orange, Philly) perhaps YOU don't do it or haven't witnessed it travel more often and pay attention to the Black culture tombstone hair styles, house slippers and cornrows, 40 oz of beer days, playing spades, basketball, double dutch jump rope, playing the pick it , lotto, running numbers, thumping bass, gin and juice c'mon rappers rap about what they experience and witness actors do the same thing
Again YOU may not see that in your Black neighbourhoods but it does exist in others -

Everytime I watch this film I get the urge to chew 2 pieces of Bazooka Joe bubblegum or some rainblo gum. Janet looks so sexy chewing the gum! I'm watching it now and I want some gum soooooooooooooooo bad but it's 3:33 in the mornin' and I ain't wastin' my gum!

I rather liked this film. Its flawed yes, but is a guilty pleasure.
And I thought Janet did respectably here.

Id definitely describe Poetic Justice as a guilty pleasure, though again, Tupac Shakur is actually quite good in it.
