    YesYou read that line right
NoIt is not the title of a children's book I'm secretly trying to write
    It's an actual subject!
Why did Lydia right away just assume Daniel got fired when he went to pick her and her siblings up from the bus stop after school.
    Daniel said,
    "I got off early."
    She said,
    "You mean you got fired."
That's a pretty bold, brazen and disrespectful thing for a young girl who supposedly loves her father to death to say to him. Did she not think he had free will, or possibly that they finished recording the cartoon early? Then she rolled her eyes at him and shook her head when he told her he quit.
I have had similar-by similar I do mean much more dark and disturbing issues about that topic with my own father which I will not be getting into but that was too bizarre even for me, that she would instantly make that assumption, she didn't even ask it, she just said it,
    "You got fired."
    GEEZE LYDIA.

Clearly it's not the first time something like that has happened.
Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

I agree with PreachCaleb. Her reaction was based on her past experiences with her father where he disappointed her over and over again. I think she felt some of her mother's disappointment as well. It wasn't the nicest thing, but kids entering teen years do get critical of their parents.

Imagine being a child and hear your parents fighting for dad not keeping a job. Of course it upset her
