Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Mrs. Doubtfire

    bma-88-573801 — 9 years ago(June 10, 2016 09:44 PM)

After the kids found out Mrs. Doubtfire had male gentalia they threatened to call the cops. Last I checked it wasn't illegal, even in 1993, to dress up as a woman. I don't think there's any crime he could be charged with. And why did they freak out so much. I wouldn't freak out that much if I found out my nanny was a transvestite or a transgender. I'd be surprised but I wouldn't refer to them as a "sicko"

Maybe because they are not accustomed to seeing or having transgendered people in their house of people at disguise as the opposite gender they are. To him but that was a massive shock.

They were scared as they didn't know who the person was yet, for all they could have known it could have been somebody worse like a bugler or somebody that they didn't even know.

In Turkish series version of this film, the father's mother-in law never loves her son-in law. Is it so in Mrs. Doubtfire too? I mean is there such a situation in Mrs. Doubtfire too?

Because he was a twelve year old boy who had just seen something that freaked him out immensely. He didn't think it through.

What are you smoking ? A nanny their mother hired to take care of them is actually a male under false pretense. Who the heck wouldn't be freaked out by that. Considering the are a lot of sick people out there. Murderes, chil molestors, kidnappers. You must have grew up under a rock.

That's the entire point of being transgendered they don't go up to everybody going "hello, I was born in the wrong body." Transgendered people are also not any more rapists or child molesters than any other person, so there's no reason to fear them at all.

You don't get it, do you? It's about 12 year old boy who finds out his elderly woman nanny is NOT a woman, ergo everything she said is a lie, ergo whatever it is, could be dangerous.

Why has this turned into a discussion about gay and transgender issues and acceptance? A young boy saw something that he didn't understand and panicked. Simple as that.

                              The character wasn't transgendered though.

Because it was 1993, not 2016, and he was a kid. Transgenders weren't the "hip" thing at the time. He also wasn't sorry that he just assumed Mrs. Doubtfire's gender.

Somebody who was hired to take care of them did not look like who they thought.

I think in 2016 most people would be freaked out to see someone who they thought was an old lady peeing like a man. I know I would be.

It would be illegal for a transvestite to work as a nanny without declaring that they were a transvestite.
