I'm the same age Caine was in the movie, and I'm American so I can relate to the time period very well. This is not what was going on during the early/mid 90's While I'm not a POC, I grew up with several and while their families were less financially viable than white folks, I can assure you they didn't become ruthless killers or even crack dealers. Most of them went to state schools that are very affordable if you live at home (hell, university tuition was free in CA at the time this was made) or went into the military One guy (he's biracial, but identifies as African American) is now an urban farmer. Don't believe the hype, regardless of skin color, the 90's weren't bad.

Some parts of this movie was realistic, just depends how you grew up and what hoods you grew up in. Its certain scenes in this movie that most people living in the hoods back in the early 90's late 80's can relate to.

I was 13 when this movie came out. I lived in South San Antonio at the time and I'll just say this. It was way worse than this movie. I give thinks to God when I think about it, that I and my close friends didn't die back then. San Antonio was a war zone in the early 90's.
