So Andy tricked his wife into exposing herself, when claiming the kid could testify about the injections

    1. How did he know she did it at home, in that specific room? I mean, he tried to piss her off, making him believe he already knew the boy said he had seen it. But if she knew that it was impossible, it would have been kind of silly for him?
    2. Uhm, suppose your neigbour rings at your door and says : okay my wife is a psycho intentionally getting sick and making an evil doctor damage her in the surgery room so they could pull a huge scam. Now I already told her your blind boy is the only thing standing between her and her fortune. Don't worry, she will come immediately to kill him, but you will be out of the house and we will arrest her (there is only a slight chance we don't get her and that you are forced to live as a fugitive with your child)
What would you do? Happily cooperate?

Hahah, you're right. I was surprised people recommended seeing it twice maybe you so you can laugh at all the other screw ups in this script. The whole build up is terribly unconvincing when you know where things are heading.
And this stupid subplot with the rapist, just to get some (disgusting) excitement into this whole boring thing.
Really silly and not so entertaining

        hi fredbel6,
i suppose he talked to the detective before he met his wife in the cafe. they decided about the plot together.
she knew that the boy's mother goes to work in the evenings (she saw her - it's been shown in the film).
also, she asks him to come and get the money, so it's fairly obvious that she wants to come to the buildings, and wants her husband to be out of the way.
obviously she didn't know he was blind. why would she know?
probably he didn't know either. rather, he went to talk to the family after he found the syringe and saw the boy sitting at his window. and that's when he finds out. and then he talks to the detective. they all decided together. probably she's been watched by the police anyway.
and huddie klein, you're not right in all points. it is a good thriller.

I love this film. Nicole Kidman gave a brilliant performance and so did Alec Baldwin and Bill Pullman.

Here's the difficulty. So we know that the mother is a nurse. It's been shown on the screen. However, I would be surprised if you lived in a home with your significant other and did not know your neighbors on either side. The child is blind, does he never leave the house? Good thriller? I was neither thrilled nor amused. This plot has more holes than the bad guy in a John Wanye movie.

If you want to laugh at plot holes, try this one: The film is released (and probably set) in 1993.
                Nowhere
in America do nurses wear the silly "wimple" hats anymore. They wear green scrub bonnets, and only at the hospital. The costume department must have taken their cue from
                Debbie Does General Hospital.

                  In answer to fredbel6:

                  1. A. Andy found a needle in the bedroom with a leftover drug in it. Although it is not shown, he took the needle to a lab to find out what was in it.
                    B. Their bedroom did not have curtains, and from where the boy would sit in his bedroom next door, he could see directly into theirs. Tracy did not know that the kid was blind. This is not revealed until after she is arrested.
                  2. My theory is that Andy consulted with the detective who investigated the campus murders and together they must have explained to the mother of the blind boy what his wife was plotting. This makes sense because if he went to his neighbor alone and explained this, she probably wouldn't have taken him seriously.
The best part was when Tracy realized that she had been beaten at her own game.

                    1. He was bluffing. If you go to 1:22 (Malice is on youtube) Andy knocks everything off Tracy's dresser. He sees the syringe with fluid in it. He looks up and sees the blind kid playing his keyboard in the window of his bedroom, appearing to look directly into Andy & Tracy's bedroom.
                    2. When you see Dana the cop come in (around 1:40)she is dressed in a nurses costume. We conclude from this that the police were in on the Tracy setup from the beginning. I would assume they told the neighbor that her son was in danger and she cooperated.

You're absolutely right in everything you say. I think the OP is correct though when he queries Andy's assumption (on our behalf) that Tracy always injected herself in a position/room where the boy could "see" her.
