Something about it just I don't know. It really tugs on my strings. Just the ending with the both of them going their separate ways knowing they can't be together, even though they love each other. It's not even she got killed like Rachel in The Dark Knight she just decided she wasn't good enough.

Well said. This movie really is one of the greatest animated movies, not just as an animated Batman/superhero movie, but because of how well it handles the characters' relationships and serious issues like vigilantism and murder.
Batman: The Animated Series
already received a lot of praise for a cartoon, and the movie is really the studio taking it to a movie-quality level. Hell, I can't think of any other Batman movie that handled both Batman's origins and his decision to remain or abandon the mask nearly as well as
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
.
Don't get me wrong, I like the other Batman adaptations and some of the Marvel stuff is okay, but I've never had anything superhero related ever strike a chord with me personally as much as Bruce Wayne at his parents' grave pleading for a normal life, just to be
happy
. And for a cartoon to pull it off so well
Can't be too careful with all those weirdos running around. -

That is a great scene.
All for a box of chocolates
