Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Reservoir Dogs

    generallolo-1 — 9 years ago(November 26, 2016 04:55 AM)

Reservoir Dogs is admittedly a guy's movie. Think the male version of the female ''chick flick''. The movie represents what it's like to be masculine, from the macho posturing to the virtually all male cast to the hilariously dirty jokes, innuendos, and anecdotes. If you were to strip away the ''crime element'' of the movie, you'd be left w/ a Nietzsche-inspired, Machiavellian depiction of the real world. A dog eat dog world. Despite their immoral nature, most guys can identify w/ at least one of these miscreants. Think the scenes where Blonde and Eddie playfully insult each other in Joe's office, where White and Orange go over the details of the heist- ''and that girl's ass? Right here on my dick.'' These are guys who talk, and to a lesser extent, act like we do. I have yet to meet a woman who actually likes this movie. In fact, most are turned off by its violent nature. They are, after all, very bad men. Any females like Reservoir Dogs?

@purplebear17- Cool! And if you don't mind me asking, why did you like it exactly? No offence, but I don't see many guys singing in praise of, let's say, Sex and the city. A quintessential ''chick flick''. I once showed my mother Reservoir Dogs back in the day, and all she said was, rather tongue in cheek, ''what a bunch of idiots''- refering to the aftermath of the bungled heist. 🙂

Which sex and the city are you referring to the tv show or the movie?

To be fair, I'm not familiar w/ either. I merely cited SATC as an example. Sure, there are men who like the TV series. Nevertheless, the vast majority of fans of the show are undoubtedly female. It's probably an acquired taste. Mind you, there are some men who probably hate it because it represents female empowerment or something? The movies, on the other hand, are just bad.

I liked Sex and the City tv show. I didn't like the sex and the city movies. When I first watched it I was too young to understand the whole evil feminist thing. I started to get less into chick flicks from watching sex and the city. I don't want my movies or shows to have any feminist or anti feminist message. I find the lifetime movies to be sometimes anti feminist. I like movies with women in them but I usually can't stand chick flicks. Stuff I consider chick flicks are primetime soaps hallmark and lifetime and child abuse/animal abuse documentaries and women's issue documentaries.

Female here; watched it for the first time last night & most definitely enjoyed it & will watch it again some time in the future.
It wasn't the violence that I found hard to watch, having watched some of Tarantino's other films, as I knew what to expect. Rather it was the conversations and interactions that, for me, conveyed more of the violence and ugliness of the charactersand yet that was also a large part of what made the film interesting.
Films I really can't stomach, and hence rarely watch, are the majority of romcoms and saccharine romances

I'm a woman I love the movie. I love the characters, the acting, the interaction and the premise. It's a great film.
I rarely watch rom-coms and hate Sex in the City. I find it inane.
I'm more into action, superhero and horror films. That's not to say I don't like dramas or comedies. I just seem to watch more action films. More entertaining IMO.

I am a woman and I love Reservoir Dogs because my favorite character from my favorite manga was designed after Steve Buscemi's Mr. Pink.

This is one of my favorite Movies and I'm a woman. I don't really think this is a man's movie. It shows how masculinity can be toxic and there's a lot of gay subtext. I don't see why violence has to be a guy thing either, I live violence.
