Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Prelude to a Kiss

Saw it again last night on tv, of course they cut out some great bits, but though this has always been one of my very favorite movies, was blown away. Always thought that Alec Baldwin killed in it, but this time appreciated Meg Ryan's performance as well. To me it is a poetic allegory asking the question: who is it you love, the physical person, or the person inside? A key moment is when Peter is on the phone with Rita's mom, and she tries to teach him something about the reality of a relationship. Both Patty Duke and Ned Beatty, who played Rita's parents, by the way, were fantastic.
Almost every scene is great, until the end when it doesn't quite pull it off with the exchange and long kiss, in my opinion.
This is probably the only romantic movie which I really like.

Likewise, 2 yrs later, I have watched this film all week. It is just that
enjoyable. Have you seen "Serendipity" or "The Morning After". Same
genre, as far as romancevery enjoyable.

Glad there are people who get this underappreciated film.
