Public defender's stuttering was too cringeworthy

I thought the scenes were funny.
Despite the God-awful stuttering, didn't the guy have tremendous self-esteem and self-confidence?
I thought that, after a terrible performance, he came back to his client and said something like "I really nailed that!", while giving a thumbs up. -

The stuttering didn't add any value to those scenes, he already looked nervous and incompetent without it. No he did not have tremendous self-esteem and self-confidence, he admitted that he was a nervous public speaker and his comment was "well I'm getting better". If that performance was him getting better I would hate to see what he was like before.
