I much preferred the "shorter nails" look rather than the longer nails that kept appearing after the first film - the shorter nails made him look far more menacing than the longer floppier nails.
Just my opinion, of course!

I thought they were only really long in Hellraiser III. The Pinhead makeup looked about the same in Hellbound, including nail length.
