Actors and actresses who do explicit love scenes are usually provided with some type of material to place between them so their naughty bits do not contact each other.
That being said, there is not much males can do about stopping sexual arousal when it happens. It sounds like Juliette Binoche is a bit pretentious, or extremely femenist and/or lesbian to walk off set over something like this. She should have taken it as a compliment to her ability to arouse the male libido with her sexuality.
Even while acting, when you are naked with a member of the opposite sex, as a heterosexual thinking about baseball and a cold rain only goes so far. Eventually involuntary actions take hold, and arousal occurs. Maybe Juliette should grow up and realize adults are adults, and if the prospect of a male actor getting aroused during a love scene is traumatic to her, she should select her roles so that she is not placed in that situation. It was she who became unprofessional when she walked off set.

I don't think it was Irons poking her with an erection. The other poster said he was very intense and physical and bounced her head off the floor, which she was not prepared for. Plus supposedly they didn't like each other too much to begin with. That sounds more likely what happened.
Get the facts first - you can distort them later!

That's quite a long post attacking Juliette Binoche when we don't even have a clear picture of what happened. If the actress was uncomfortable and needed some space, then so be it.

Well put bluntly, Jeremy Irons hated making the movie and has even cited it as his least favourite role. (He tried to extricate himself from the production but he was threatened with a lawsuit.)
He also made no secret of the fact that he thought Juliette Binoche was miscast; that she was too young for the role. He apparently wanted Isabelle Adjani for the part but she turned it down.
It was, I imagine, a rather unhappy set to work on and it's possible that when the tension became unbearable Binoche simply fled.

Adjani would have been wonderful for the part.

I have read through ALL your very numerous posts and only one from jmarsh4036-1 comes close to my feelings on the subject. Put yourselves in the position of these two actors. Apart from yourselves, there will be a Director and Producer present, not to mention the camera crew. You are given directions beforehand as to what actions are required for the scene and if you don't get it right the first time it has to be repeated for a second or even a third time.
In such a torrid situation as Irons and Binoche find themselves, performing a stilted, passionate if not downright perverted act, I am not surprised that the girl became alarmed and upset. And bear in mind that all this takes place in front of a crowd. If she caught the Best Boy leering at her at some inappropriate moment, I think she was justifiably entitled to become upset.
"Oh! my poor head," or whatever the French is for that..
(You people must appreciate that this is written slightly tongue-in-cheek.)

In light of Irons's own admission that he's sexually harassed women (in interviews he's talked about seeing nothing wrong with patting women's bottoms) I wouldn't be surprised if he did something inappropriate to Binoche while they were filming.
