I remember very vividly when this movie came out in 1993.
The movie critics were calling it one of the best films of the year.
There were articles in the newspaper about people lining up at the cinema to see this movie and being turned back.
So, I knew it was a great movie and I was dying to see it also.
My brother and I went together. We were blown away by the initial part in terms of the rapport between Fergus and Jodie. We were just memorized.
then, Dil comes on the screen and my brother goes - "she looks like a man"! Then we watched the rest of the movie
The first part was what really stayed with us and to this day I consider that initial movie segment between Fergus and Jodie to be amongst the best movie-making I have ever seen.
Miranda Richardson was hardly in it.

Well the twist was great, i really didn't see it coming, the only problem i had with it was that it, in my opinion came way to early, there was an hour left for the movie to finish, and after that the movies goes normally, with no big surprises, it would have worked better if it was near the end imo.
It's still a good movie but it could have been something outstanding.
        7/10

          Plot twists (plural):
          *Dil being transgender.
*Jody being gay or bi (perhaps it makes you reflect more on the relationship between Fergus and Jody.)
*Jody's "nature": Was it his nature to cheat? Did he know Dil would make Fergus happy if he didn't survive?
*Fergus still loving Dil after the gender reveal.
*Fergus doing time for the murder Dil committed. (Fergus's nature.)
*The twist not even MENTIONED in this whole thread: How about Dil getting to kill Jude?!? Who would have thought that a jilted lover would take down one of the most cold-blooded killers in the IRA??? Jude never saw it coming. Even though Jude stalked Dil as a way to blackmail Fergus and to get him to comply with the IRA, Jude did not know that Dil was Jody's former lover. Jude probably didn't know that Dil was a man either AND if she realized that Dil was their former prisoner's lover, Jude would have killed Dil immediately, realizing the threat.
But nah, broBae was cray! Dil just did Jude's hair, then POW POW! Classic tale of love and revenge!
